I have had a question in regards to global warming, rising sea levels, green house gases and the future of the planet. I know this post is way different from previous posts but like I said, I am going to go out of the comfort zone sometimes. So of course many people agree that climate change is happening and the changes are not for the better. the amount of pollution in the air, in the water, and in the ground is causing the one place we live to become a place that cannot survive on the current path we are on. There are places on this planet that are still pristine while others are so polluted that they can hardly support life. The green movement is growing and as far as I can see there is a bigger push for things like recycling and green energy. But I want to focus on one issue and one solution that I have not been able to find any information on. I am of the belief that sea levels are rising, ice caps are melting, large sheets of ice from Antarctica are breaking off and being set adrift into the open sea and begin their melting process as they do. On the northern end of the globe, the polar ice cap is also shrinking, and by some scientific calculations, by 2054 there may be little to no ice left in the north pole. So we also have a problem where the planet is heating up. There are places in the world where this is nothing green like grass or trees growing, and other places where the vegetation is sparse. So with these two serious and conflicting conditions, what is a planet to do?
The idea is not easy and not cheap but I believe it to be one solution for the survival of the planet. As sea levels rise we need to be able to take the sea water, remove the salt from it, and transport the water to places that have little to no water to help grow trees and grasses in those areas which will help create more Oxygen, remove more Carbon Dioxide as our population grows, and lower the temperature of the planet which could reverse the melting of the ice thereby lowering sea levels.
Sure, that's all it takes; sounds easy right? First of all I am sure the cost of the infrastructure would be in the Trillions of dollars world wide, and it is not like every country has the means to work on a project of such magnitude. But lets take one small example. Australia has a problem with drought and heat and a couple of years ago they were building one of the largest desalination plants in the world. Of course they were doing this because of the lack of fresh clean drinking water for the people of Australia but if they could do this for a slightly larger scale they would be able to create greener spaces in areas of Australia.
So this is the very short and simple answer to a problem that is much larger and complicated but maybe this little seed will produce an idea bigger than the problem itself.
